FaithTech FT83404A-6-1 Bidirectional Battery Cell Simulating Power Supply ±6V/±1A/6W
The FT8340 Series is a high precision, multi channel, dual quadrant programmable battery cell simulator engineered to support advanced battery management system (BMS) development, validation, and production testing. It offers seamless switching between charging and discharging modes (i.e. it functions as both a source and sink), enabling realistic battery simulation without needing separate equipment. Each device can include up to 12 isolated channels, allowing modular scaling and series/parallel configurations while preventing interference between channels. Thanks to its 2U 19 inch rack form factor, dual Ethernet ports, and RS 485 interface, the FT8340 is well suited for integration into automated test platforms or standalone bench setups.
Beyond simple voltage sourcing, the FT8340 supports a wide array of battery specific functions including setting cell characteristic curves (SOC, internal resistance, capacity), pulse profiles, static power consumption testing, and built in fault simulation (e.g. disconnection, short circuits, reverse polarity) (A series models). Its ultra fine measurement resolution (µA level current accuracy) makes it especially suitable for low power device testing, such as standby mode analysis of battery powered electronics.
FT83404A-6-1 Unit range:
- Voltage: 0 to ±6V
- Current: 0 to ±1A
- Power: 0 to 6W
- Dimensions: 2U, standard 19-inch chassis design
Key Features & Performance Highlights
Dual Quadrant (Bidirectional) - operation supports both sourcing (charging) and sinking (discharging) current per channel without external switching.
Multi Channel & Isolation - up to 12 channels available in one unit; each channel is electrically isolated, enabling series or parallel configuration safely.
Voltage & Current Ranges - supports voltages of ±20 V (note: positive/negative voltages in A-series) and currents up to ±10 A (in some models).
High Precision & Fine Resolution - µA level current accuracy; multiple current ranges; low drift (voltage temperature drift < 25 ppm/°C) for stability.
Seamless Mode Switching - source/load transitions happen smoothly without overshoot or interruption, allowing realistic battery behaviour emulation.
Battery Characteristic Simulation - users can define SOC, capacity, internal resistance, and simulate dynamic curves of cells—useful for BMS module testing.
Fault Simulation (A-series) - simulate cell faults like short circuit, open circuit, reverse connection per channel, controllable via software.
Static Power Consumption Testing - enables measurement of standby or quiescent current of devices under test by supplying power and observing µA levels.
Interfaces & Control - dual Ethernet (LAN) ports, RS 485, and software support for multi channel editing and control.
Compact Rack Design - 2U height, standard 19 inch chassis for rack mount or bench deployment.
